Tackling Major Conditions

The government is seeking views and ideas on how to prevent, diagnose, treat and manage the 6 major groups of health conditions that most affect the population in England. These are:

  • cancers
  • cardiovascular disease, including stroke and diabetes
  • chronic respiratory diseases
  • dementia
  • mental ill health
  • musculoskeletal disorders

Know Your Blood Pressure

The following received from NW London NHS…

High blood pressure has no symptoms, but can lead to serious health problems such as heart attack or stroke if it’s ignored.

Everyone over 40 should know their blood pressure.

If it’s been more than five years since your last check, contact your GP, visit a community pharmacy that offers the service, or take your reading at home if you have a blood pressure monitor.

Heart Failure

We’re received this from NW London NHS …

Heart failure is as common as the four most common cancers combined. Make sure you recognise the warning signs of heart failure:

  • Fighting for breath
  • Fatigue
  • Fluid build-up (swelling in legs/ankles)

If you have these symptoms contact your GP and ask if it could be heart failure.

Peri-Natal Pelvic Health

Another missive received from NW London NHS, but no indication of dates etc.

North West London Maternity Service invites all those who are pregnant or have had a baby or babies in the last 12 months to join our pelvic health class.

This class is part of the new Perinatal Pelvic Health Service pilot which will be run in each of our 4 trusts.

Prostate Cancer Screening

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the UK. However, the earlier cancer is found the more successful treatment may be. Know your risks and speak to your GP.

1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer.
