Flu Advice

Given the current high rates of flu around, here’s advice from the NHS …

If you have symptoms of flu: coughing, sneezing or fever – help stop the spread.

  • Stay home if you can and wear a mask around other people.
  • Look after yourself, rest, keep warm take paracetamol or ibuprofen to lower your temperature and treat aches and pains.
  • Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
  • If you need medical help or advice use NHS 111 online or over the phone from home.
  • Please do not travel to our hospitals or emergency services.

Remember too, that you are eligible for a flu vaccination if:

  • you are over 65
  • you are a child aged 2-3 or are of school age
  • you have certain long-term health conditions
  • you are pregnant

The vaccination is your best protection against serious illness.

It is also worth knowing that GPs may now prescribe the anti-viral medicine Tamiflu (oseltamivir) if you are in a clinical risk group and within 48 hours of symptom onset or exposure.
